CoolSculpting Patient Diary
As Mr Tariq Ahmad’s secretary I’ve researched many of the fat reduction procedures on the market and I’m well informed on what cosmetic surgery procedures, such as tummy tucks or thigh reductions, can achieve.
I became really excited about the potential benefits of CoolSculpting and was keen to explore this innovative fat reduction procedure in more depth.
Over the last year, I have lost 25lbs but I still have areas of my body that I’m not happy with; stubborn pockets of fat on my stomach, thighs and arms that I can’t shift with diet and exercise alone. I’d also like to have CoolSculpting on my neck to tighten up and add more definition, which I think will look more youthful and rejuvenated.

I’m both excited and nervous. During my consultation with Mr Tariq Ahmad we discussed the treatment in more detail and he explained that CoolSculpting is the only FDA-cleared procedure that can eliminate stubborn fat.
I was particularly excited that it could be used in many different areas of the body – the arms, abdomen, flanks, double chin and the inner and outer thighs – all places that I would love to have treated.
We decided that we would initially perform CoolSculpting on the abdomen as Mr Ahmad believed that the degree of skin laxity and excess fat tissue in this area would respond very well to the CoolSculpting procedu

I tell a few friends about what I’m planning. I was a little bit nervous about their reactions but they just had lots of questions, like, how does it work? Is it safe?

I’m sitting at home, thinking about the upcoming procedure and worried about how much it will hurt. But, I’ve had two children, so keep telling myself I’m going to be fine!

I wake up on the day of my first CoolSculpting procedure and I’m both excited and apprehensive. On my arrival I’m met by Lisa, who works closely with Tariq, and she makes me feel so comfortable and relaxed.
She ran over everything I can expect from my procedure again so I was prepared. Then she used body markers to mark up the areas of the body that should be treated. The next step was to take before pictures from a number of different angles. These are really important as results gradually improve over a period of time, so it helps patients see the changes that are occurring.
Procedure time and the first step was adding the gel pack to my abdomen. It was incredibly cold which was a bit of a shock. Then the applicator was placed on my abdomen, pulling up the fatty tissue, and the controlled cooling was delivered into the fat cells. This did cause quite a bit of pain but it only lasted for about four minutes and then there was no discomfort whatsoever and I was able to read and check my emails.
The procedure took just over an hour and I had four cycles on my abdomen. Lisa then removed the applicators and massaged my tummy and, again, I couldn’t feel a thing.
Six hours after the treatment, my stomach looked quite swollen and I felt a bit uncomfortable, but I was relaxing at home so was able to cope.

The day after
I slept very well and had a nice bath when I woke up. Taking a good look at my abdomen, it still looked swollen and there was some discomfort but it was already easing.
Monday 2nd May 2016
Luckily, Monday was a bank holiday so I didn’t have to go to work, but I think I would have coped fine if I’d had to. I took some paracetamol and caught up on my housework.
Tuesday 3rd May 2016
Back to work and another CoolSculpting treatment! I was having a procedure on my arms, performed by Sadaf, our new CoolSculpting expert. She was lovely and I was so excited to tackle my bingo wings after I’d had such a great experience on Saturday.
It felt very different compared to my abdomen treatment, particularly as you can’t really move once the machine starts so it wasn’t as relaxing. I started to experience pins and needles in my fingers, but Sadaf massaged my hand to ease the sensation. After the procedure had finished, Sadaf massaged by arms and I didn’t experience any pain.

No discomfort today from the treatment yesterday. They do feel a little bit like they don’t belong to my body when I touch them which is an odd sensation, but no pain.
CoolSculpting uses cryolipolysis to kill the fat cells, so the body can naturally remove them over time, so I’m looking forward to seeing how my body will start to shape up. Click here if you want to learn some more about CoolSculpting.

Slight bruising to one thigh but no pain; just an odd sensation as before, which signifies that everything is slowly coming back to life.
